RENDER: What Our Signals Do

Can a GPU rental token produce a profit factor of 1.98? Turns out, yes — if you use the right rules and accept that you will only get about 9 signals a year.

RENDER (formerly RNDR) is a decentralized GPU rendering network that connects artists and developers who need computing power with GPU owners who have spare capacity. It sits at the intersection of crypto and AI — two of the loudest narratives in the market — which means its price action is driven as much by hype cycles as by actual network usage.

The Backtest: 1D MACD + ADX>30

RENDER runs on the daily timeframe with an ADX threshold of 30. That is a moderately high filter — below the 40 we use for SUI and PEPE, but well above the 15-20 range we use for assets like NEAR and LINK.

The daily timeframe fits RENDER because its trends develop over days, not hours. This is not a memecoin that spikes and fades in an afternoon. When RENDER moves, it tends to move directionally for a week or more — exactly the kind of behavior daily MACD was built to capture.

The Numbers in Context

A profit factor of 1.98 under Rule B is among the strongest in our system. For every dollar lost on losing trades, the strategy made .98 on winners. Combined with a positive mean quarterly alpha of +8.1% and a Sharpe of +0.24, RENDER earns a clear Tier 1 classification.

But look at the signal count: roughly 9 per year. That is fewer than one per month. The daily timeframe combined with ADX>30 means the strategy is patient — sitting in cash for long stretches and only entering when a genuine trend is underway.

The buy-and-hold return of −70.2% over 2.7 years tells you what RENDER has done to passive holders. The strategy turned that into +63.4% — a 134-percentage-point swing. The mechanism is the same as always: exit before the worst drawdowns, re-enter when momentum confirms a new trend.

What the Signals Are Good At

RENDER's best quality for signal generation is its tendency to trend cleanly once a move starts. The AI narrative creates waves of buying or selling that sustain for days or weeks. When a new AI product launches, when NVIDIA reports earnings, when AI regulation news breaks — these create momentum that RENDER absorbs and holds. Daily MACD catches these moves, and ADX>30 confirms they have real force behind them.

The bearish signals are particularly effective. RENDER's declines tend to be grinding — not the sudden gap-downs you see with memecoins, but sustained selling over weeks. A bearish MACD crossover at the daily level, confirmed by ADX>30, typically fires early enough in these declines to avoid the bulk of the damage.

Where They Struggle

The low signal count means long stretches of inactivity. If you are watching for RENDER alerts, you may go five or six weeks without one. During those quiet periods, RENDER could drift up 20% while the strategy sits in cash waiting for ADX to confirm.

The AI narrative is also a double-edged sword. When AI sentiment shifts — a model disappointment, a regulatory scare, a competitor launching — RENDER can gap down before the daily MACD crossover fires. The daily timeframe introduces a minimum one-day lag between a price move and a signal. For most of RENDER's history that lag is acceptable. But in a sudden sentiment reversal, it costs you.

And 2.7 years is short. RENDER's entire data history fits inside one crypto cycle. The 1.98 profit factor is compelling, but we have not seen how this strategy performs through a prolonged bear market where AI hype has fully unwound.

What to Expect

About 9 signals per year. Long gaps between alerts are normal. RENDER is long-only: buy on bullish crossovers passing ADX>30, exit to cash on bearish crossovers. No shorting.

RENDER delivers the second-highest profit factor in our system under Rule B, with positive quarterly alpha and a clean Sharpe ratio. The trade-off is patience — 9 signals a year means long stretches in cash. If you can handle the quiet, the math is strong.
